I've never played Wii Fit, but having just gotten a Wii with the standard sports games disc, I do have to say that it is fun! The boxing in particular can make you work up a sweat. And I think that's the key--to make exercise fun. Kids are very much into video games and computers. By introducing them to Wii Fit and these other games, it combines a hobby (computers & games) with focused, health conscious entertainment. Hopefully, it will make a big difference in children's obesity rates.

with a diet I developed!

I would appreciate it if you could stop by my weight loss blog and tell me what you think.

I really appreciate getting your thoughts on this. As I've said before, I have had no personal experience with significant weight gain or loss, so I definitely know I only have one side of the story. I think you nailed it on the head by mentioning the health and nutrition education. You can always tell people what they should do or how much they should weigh, but it won't do any good unless they understand how it affects their body, mind and spirit.

I often wonder how the contestants do afterward as well. When I worked at camp, it was very common for the kids to leave and experience weight gain. It's hard to adjust back into a life that includes exercise and good eating habits while staying busy all of the time! I do hope that the people who come out of that program retain their weight loss, especially because many of them are dangerously close to heart attacks, diabetes and heart disease. So glad you enjoyed the finale, even if it was full of commercials!

"Most of all, start with proper nutrition and diet control as your child starts eating solid foods. Make sure they get enough exercise and don’t stay in front of the television and computer."

Yikes! I've seen some heavy preschoolers myself, usually with heavy parents. Nutrition education should be given to the entire family rather than singling out the kids. We also need to fix food prices to make healthy eating less expensive instead of junk food.

I recently read a study that says people who have financial incentive (either negative like this or positive reward) loose considerably more weight than those with no tangible motivation. Considering the extra possible health care costs related to being overweight, I think it is suitable. (FYI-I'm about 50 pounds overweight myself and have no medical insurance). They should make health and nutrition education part of the program to help employees meet their goal.

I agree. It is very inspiring as far as reality shows go. If those so very heavy can loose as much as they do, then us who aren't certainly can. We watched the finale last night. Aside from way too many commercials, it was great! Just imagine loosing almost half your body weight in less than a year. But I do wonder how the contestants are doing years later. Have they managed to keep it off from season 1?
